In Tagalog mythology, Tala is the goddess of stars, and one of the greatest deities in the Sky World along with her sister, Hanan, the goddess of dawn. 1980 also marks the discovery of a minor planet that is now named after two Filipino astronomers, the first time the country has been given this kind of accolade.
